Film Kaguya-hime no Monogatari by Ghibli Works Cast

The official website for the anime movie Kaguya-Hime no Monogatari (The Tale of Princess Kaguya) by Isao Takahata and Studio Ghibli has been updated with the cast. Aki Asakura Kaguya will play, and Takeo Chii, who died in June last year, still plays Okina (Old Man), because he had completed all the parts before he died. Kengo Kora plays Sutemaru, while Nobuko Miyamoto plays Ouna (Old Woman).

Other cast is Atsuko Takahata, Tomoko Tabata, Tatekawa shinosuke, Takaya Kamikawa, Hikaru Ijuuin, Ryudo Uzaki, Shichinosuke Nakamura, Isao Hashizume, Yukiji Asaoka, and Tatsuya Nadai.


As its title suggests, the film is adapted tales Taketori Monogatari (The Tale of the Bamboo Cutter), which tells the story of a princess named Kaguya who was found as a baby in a bamboo rod. Takahata make this film and co-wrote the screenplay with Rico Sakaguchi. This is the latest movie Takahata after My Neighbors the Yamadas is released about 14 years ago. Meanwhile, the music for the film is handled by Joe Hisaishi.

Tahakata previously been revealed in 2009 that the next film he would do based on fairy tales. Tagline on the official site and trailer for the movie reads "the princess of crime and punishment." The film was originally to be released in conjunction with other Ghibli films, Kaze Tachinu, but was canceled due to resignation release schedule.

Kaguya-hime no Monogatari aired in Japan on November 23.
